Indians returning to India after long sojourns in the U.S can neither fit in here nor can they ignore India.
These poor class of people, inspite of their successes and material prosperity live in a nether world where they call USA their home, yet try to adjust to living in India.
Once here, they tend to behave exactly as any American born typical white person would: express horror about poverty, whine about the lack of civil infrastructure, pontificate about the need to abolish corruption, etc. In short, they become the archetypical Snob.
Here is an article in from 'Inside Bay Area' titled: 'On return from U.S., yuppies build America on Indian soil'
I wonder what drives them back to India. Various reasons do the rounds, one of them is interesting: A mother feared for her daughters' transition to adolescence in the US that she uprooted herself+daughter to live in India. Wow. What a reason!
I fear that the prime motivation to return to India is mostly the same as the original motivation that took our expats to US in the first place.. namely, a quest for 'honour', 'status', 'prosperity', 'lifestyle', 'comforts', and certain others.
These same factors are driving them back. While they try to justify their returns with coloured and well thought emotional 'reasons' like culture, patriotism, family heritage, children's need to understand India, etc..they really know.
